MICROS HELP PLEASE!
« on: May 23, 2009, 02:15:57 PM »
We need some help with a workstation at one of our outside bars.  It began by slowing down considerably until it would freeze up.  It now will boot to contrast up/contrast down screen 90% of the time.  If we can get it to boot completely it'll last only a few minutes until it slows and freezes again.  We've ran a new wire out to it, swapped workstations, switched bar drawers, printers, and wires, but to no avail.  We have the Micros POS 8700 and all other workstations and bar terminals inside the restaurant, and at the outside tiki bar are operational.  It seems more like a problem with the location.  Sometimes when stopping the workstation and restarting from our micros pc in the office we get a system closed message at the contrast up/contrast down screen on the workstation.  Our local micros tech is stumped as well.  Any help regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated.

It works insode but not out? That makes no sense at all. Take away the location issue, and it just sounds dirty. They can get dusty inside, overheat, and freeze up from that.

Any workstation that works perfectly in any other location in the restaurant will not work in that particular location.  If we can get it to work, within a little while it slows down tremendously to the point where button presses take over a minute to react.  It then just does not respond and if we try to restart it boots to the contrast up/down screen and never downloads the database.

How is the workstation communicating with the pc?  LCC, RCC, NET-CC?   Switch ports at the source of origin to determine if the problem follows the port or stays with the cable.

Good advice Oaken, this sounds like a networking issue, not a Micros issue.
