Sorry I didn't respond faster.
I don't have a onboard serial port. I use a Serial to USB Cable. I do configure it's settings  to match the device settings.
I've also tried on a PC with a serial port pci card and get the same results. I don't have a PC with onboard serial port but will try to find one to try that.

I think the USB adaptor to serial could be the root of your issues. I have never had luck with those even on simple devices.

Yes I've considered it, even though other devices have worked even the scanner function.
I'm going to have to try with a PC with a onboard serial port at least to rule it out.

Well guys problem solved.
I'm kind of embarrased, it was a rokies mistake I think.
As I said this was my first time making a POS system. After extensive tests guided via email by a Datalogic representative, we found out that the scale needed to be calibrated. I would have hoped that the local seller even knew that had to be done, I called him 2 times to tell him we had issues and they were totally oblivious.
But well at last its working. Thanks for your help.
