Aloha Credit Card Failures
« on: November 20, 2011, 05:00:07 PM »
Hello All,

I am not here to vent out my super-anger at Aloha, but hopefully to find a solution.  I have been told by my mgmt that there is a charge to speak with the Aloha support team.  I have no idea how true that is, but being a techie...there are some things I wanted to look at.

The situation is that often enough our system will not take credit cards.  It seems to switch over to the phone lines, as a back up, but eventually that ffails as well.

A reboot of the system makes it work again...and then eventually fails.

This causes such a mess on a busy night.

So, being a programmer I thought I might as in a place like here a very important question:

Does the Aloha POS system have a log file that I can look at?  Yes, there are other things I want to look at (is there an internet connection at the next failer, etc. etc.).  But looking for a log file would be a great start since we have nothing but multiple, business slowing POS failers, etc.

Many thanks ahead of time...

Daniel

Daniel,
The issue may be that your losing internet connectivity for a moment while processing a credit card. Usually a stop and start of POS processing on Aloha EDC will correct this. However, sometimes there are other issues as to why EDC is acting up. You can always look in your aloha\tmp folder for a file called debout.edc . Additionally, there is a setting in EDC that you can set SSL RETRIES to more than once or whatnot to avoid going directly to backup dialup.
Hope this helps,
Nick

PS: if you need further support at a reasonable rate in the future...PM me and i'll send you my details.
