POS for Mexican Restaurant and Bar
« on: October 05, 2010, 04:34:44 PM »
Greetings.

First time establishing a POS in this business. I have used a variety in my past. I want to run reports, clock in/out, and inventory. I have spoken with:

24x7 Hospitality Technology - onePOS
Adelo
Benerson
Bi-State POS Solutions - Future pos
Cash Register Specialties - Ciao POS
Northwestern Cash Register - Maitre'D
Sixth Sense Software - Sixth Sense POS
Squirrel Systems
VIVO Net - HALO

We're only one location but could have another in the future. Your usual Mexican menu (apps to entrees to desserts). Full bar plus specialty drinks.

We don't need anything huge but also nothing small.

A couple things that stand out:

Benerson is half the price as my most expensive quote (for the same amount of terminals). Usually that means "bad", right? Any experience with them?

Sixth Sense is Mac based (which is a HUGE PLUS in my book) but I know in the great minority of the POS world. Any experience on this one?

I'm trying to stay away from Micros as they are usually overly expensive...? And we're no where near a chain.

I'm sure these questions have been asked before. I'll take links!

Thank you.

Sounds like you have been doing your homework. Well, from my experience, stay away from MAC based systems. I type this from a mac.... I love mac machines as a webmaster and a photographer, but reality is that PC's and Linux are the business end of computing. Mac just isn't supported enough by the business world.

Halo is one of our site supporters. They were invited here, and for a reason. Vivo is a long term supported software that will be around 10, 20 years from now and if you can afford them they are your best option by far.

Another i WOULD have supported was NEXTpos but it appears they have been bought out and no longer offer the same type of support they once had. I have been trying to get ahold of Harry (the founder and new CEO), that I did several installs for, and he doesn't have time anymore to even call me back with a few questions my customer's have.

All in all, if you are unsure, consult a reseller that has done installs in your area and talk to the restaurant owners and see if they are happy with their systems. Good luck and let us know what you decide!
