Application Integration?

Q&A around development and integration of third-party applications with established POS applications.

I'm trying to get a sense of which POS applications allow third-party integration. I know that Microsoft's Dynamics product allows integration of plugin-style applications to modify and add to a range of core services. I'd like to learn more about Oracle and IBM retail POS application integration.. Are there APIs? an SDK? Is it even possible?

If you want more integration i think you should go for open source products, which are easiest to be customized.
