Used bookstore & coffee shop point of sale
« on: April 12, 2010, 09:01:10 AM »
Trying to find an inexpensive point of sale program for a used bookstore and coffee shop.  I am just starting off and there is no way that I can afford Basil or BookAccents.  I have been looking at Intuit Quickbooks Point of Sale Pro and Wasp Point of Sale.  They seem affordable and am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for similarly priced point of sale / inventory programs specifically for bookstores.  One of my biggest needs would be to keep track of customer credit for book trade ins.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and advice!
Christy

Hello, and congrats on your new store! I would suggest quickbooks POS for your situation. It will handle all of your needs. You will need to scan in your initial inventory (i know, its a pain) but it should do.

Another suggestion is to find someone that is selling a used Quicksell 2000 license. They got bought out my microsoft so they arent around anymore, but I set up a couple of book stores with it and the owners loved it!

Lastly, I heard through the grapevine that Provaya is doing a rewrite, their software is a great fit for bookstores. If you aren't buying for a few months, I would wait for their next release and go with them.

Cash Register Express is a software that we represent.  It is cheaper than Quickbooks yet has practically all the same features.  Plus, it can be configured to perfectly handle your coffee shop.  Scanning ISBN is no problem.  In fact, if you can get an extensive list of ISBNs from a supplier, we can pre-load your database with these items.  Check us out at www.rapidpos.com

Good luck!
