I have  a liquor store. I have just ordered CRE. I am looking for a Liquor Store Database to import to make the initial inventory process easier.
Anyone got one?

Thanks,
Senator Joker

I hate to tell you this but, you are going to want to enter your inventory the old fashioned way. Why? Because you will find half of the stuff you sell different, plus many states require unique bar codes, PLUS, your scanner may or may not scan the check digits, PLUS the list goes on and on.

I know it may seem daunting, but it is worth it to take a day or two and enter all of your inventory MANUALLY (sucks, i know).

Best way I have seen is to have two people working together, one a runner and counter and the other doing the scanning and data entry.

I was lucky in that before we had our POS they were keeping track of inventory in an Excel Spreadsheet. It takes a little formatiing but I was able to load a good portion of the inventory from the spreadsheet. It really saved me a lot time.

I know that SenatorJoker has already solved his problem, but I thought I would post so that when this is ready by other in the future they might find this idea helpful...

You wholesale suppliers should be able to provide you with a spreadsheet of item descriptions, sizes (e.g. oz), barcode, suggested retail, cost, etc.  If you have those basics, the upload into CRE is easy enough.  Two other hints for liquor stores using CRE:

- Don't forget to use the tag-along item for bottle deposits (called CRV in California)

- Set the "prompt for qty" flag on items that may be sold as a single or a six pack (i.e. beer that has only the plastic rings holding the 6-pack together).  Set a "bulk price" for 6 or more so that you sell a 6-pack for less than the each-price x 6.

We help our clients do this all the time.  If you want to press an easy button and have us do it for you, check us out:  http://www.rapidpos.com/liquor-store-pos.html
