Percentage based discounts/coupons

I'm designing a restaurant POS application. I was wondering if anyone could answer this question for me. If two 50% off discounts where applied to the same item... Would that count as a 100% off; or would it be 50% off, then 50% of the remaining 50% (or a total of 75% off)?

That is up to the developer. Are you the developer? Or are you adding a feature to an existing POS product?
